Attarat Power Company
APCO is the Project Company developing the first oil-shale fired mine-mouth IPP project in Jordan.
The Attarat Project (Project) is a 2 x 235 MW (Net) Oil Shale Fired Mine Mouth IPP Project located in Attarat Um Ghudran, 110 km south east of Amman. The Project site is accessible via the main desert
At a total investment costs of USD2.1 billion, the Project is the largest private inward investment into Jordan to-date. The Project is the first to commercially utilize Jordan’s abundant oil shale resource to produce electricity, thereby reducing Jordan’s reliance on imported oil and gas.
When completed at the end of 2020, it is expected to meet up to 15% of Jordan’s annual electricity demand and will contribute towards its long-term energy security and independence.
The Attarat Project will kick-start Jordan’s nascent oil shale industry.
